Community First

Hello!

I’ve had the honor of being the Mayor of Lyons for the last two years, and I could not be more grateful.

We residents know that Lyons is a unique and strong community, made up of people with a wide variety of talents, interests, and opinions. We face our challenges with open minds, dedication, optimism, hard work, and kindness. Most of all, we put our community first.

That’s what I brought to the table in 2022, and what I hope you’ll elect me to bring again in 2024. I won’t make any promises except this one: I promise that if you elect me, I’ll continue to respectfully listen to the Lyons community’s concerns and ideas, and work as hard as I can to find and implement solutions that support the safety, health, quality of life, and well-being of our entire community.

Results 2022-2024

Over the past two years, I’ve worked with the Lyons Board of Trustees to:

  • Secure more than $3.2M in unanticipated funding.
  • Lead the mediation team to finally settle the wastewater treatment plant lawsuit.
  • Shepherd the completion of Lyons Valley Townhomes, a project multiple Boards and Mayors worked so hard on, over the last eight years, and enabled the redevelopment of 317 Evans Street into nine new, safe, affordable housing units.
  • Begin the process of creating a multi-jurisdictional regional housing authority to help address the housing crisis.
  • Continue wildfire mitigation efforts, including limb drop-off and electric undergrounding.
  • Annex the Martin Parcel into town limits.
  • Obtain heavily discounted bear-proof trash bins for town residents.
  • Successfully lobby the state legislature so that Lyons and other Colorado communities can maintain local control of land use decision-making.
  • Collaborate with the Boulder County Sheriff’s office to create common-sense gun violence prevention ordinances that are enforceable and keep our community safer.
  • Approve and complete safety enhancements around the Lyons Middle-High School and Lyons Elementary School.
  • Implement climate change mitigation policies and strategies, including updated building codes; advocate for the cessation of mining at Dowe Flats; begin the process of ensuring 100% renewable energy from our electricity provider; and establish a partnership with National Renewable Energy Labs.
  • Chair the Lyons Urban Renewal Authority, which saw its first two projects come online.
  • Ensure that Lyons and other small communities in Colorado have a voice in statewide and national issues that affect us by participating in the Metro Mayors Caucus Legislative Committee, the national Mayors Innovation Project, the Boulder County Consortium of Cities, and the Denver Regional Council of Governments.
  • Oversee  the adoption of the Lyons Thrive! Comprehensive Plan.
  • Advocate for robust public participation in the Lyons Thrive! Comprehensive Plan, the Lyons Housing Needs Assessment study, and the Town budget process.
  • Build county, regional, statewide and nationwide relationships to collaborate with and learn from other elected officials, and to reinforce and raise Lyons’ reputation as a vibrant and welcoming community.

Continue to listen, learn, and advocate for the health, well-being, safety, independence, and success of Lyons. Join me!
